Welcome.
WHAT'S GREAT ABOUT THEM: a great old pair of earrings attributed strongly to the renowned Dan Simplicio. These are a great match to a squash necklace at the Heard Museum which Dan Simplicio Jr. says was made by Dan in 1945. He explains that because his father was recovering from a WW2 injury,  and had to stay still for a long time, he was able to do painstakingly complicated work like that. There are a number of tiny little elements requiring extensive time. The drops are all handmade, shaped into little balls and then imprinted with their designs while still hot. This was described in regard to the necklace in the Heard Museum and if you look at the Naja in that piece you can see the similarity to these earrings.  I'm including a picture of that necklace in the pics above with the earrings near the Naja so you can see the similarity. I'm also including some of the several other pieces in my store by Dan Simplicio: a necklace and a bracelet. I have a few other bracelets of his, too, and bolos as well as other earrings and a buckle, if you'd like to mix and match. These earrings are beautiful and classic. They have hoops attached but with cold solder they could be converted to Omega backs, or posts alone, for example, if you'd like to wear them a little higher. They are highly collectible and wonderful.
BACKGROUND:Dan Simplicio's work is in the C.G.Wallace catalog, and every important collection, gallery and museum. Dan Simplicio was one of C. G. Wallace's favorite smiths and one of mine too. He was versatile and prolific. His work was prominently featured in the 1975 Sotheby's auction of the C. G. Wallace collection. Work from this collection is in the permanent collection of the Heard Museum in Phoenix. These earrings are museum quality pieces of his which I think are a good match to a necklace in that museum. Dan Simplicio is credited for having been the first to use natural nuggets in his work and was one of the most influential early master silversmiths. His naturalistic free form style of work has become one hallmark of the era.
CONDITION: excellent vintage, wearable and collectible condition. Gorgeous example by one of Zuni's historically great silversmiths.
MEASUREMENTS:
• each of the set areas measures 1.5" x 1.125"
• hanging length of each is 2-3/8"
• weight of one is 8grams and the other 8.93grams
• one is stamped sterling silver and they are sterling silver .925
• unsigned by the artist which is usual.  He almost never signed his pieces and the squash in the Heard isn't signed either. I'm attributing to Dan Simplicio based upon that necklace and my overall familiarity with his work. It's an attribution, but made with confidence
SUMMARY: these naturalistic style earrings with the molten looking silver raindrops are a good match for some of Dan Simplicio's work, so I'd date them to the time he made a similar squash necklace currently residing in the Heard Museum, 1945.  They work with several of the pieces I have available in my store: three of his bracelets, bolos, buckle, and a necklace and some pins as well. They'll work with most of his special pieces IMO. And you can convert them with cold solder, laser, if you want to wear them with posts or Omega backs. They are classic and fabulous.
I recommend these for any collection. They are museum quality pieces which I attribute to the renowned Dan Simplicio, whose work commands thousands of dollars, with justification. He is one of the most important Zuni artists from the CG Wallace period.
