WWII Marine Japanese Steel Bayonet, Scabbard, & Extremely Rare Japanese Marine Fabric Belt Frog, Nice Original US Marine Vet Bring-back Souvenir From the Pacific
    DESCRIPTION:
Original WWII Japanese steel bayonet, scabbard, AND RARE ORIGINAL BROWN FABRIC BELT FROG. Scans show it all. Blade is in excellent condition with much of the original finish. Has double arsenal marks on the throat as shown.
Wooden grips are in excellent condition. I am selling this just as I got it from the WWII Marine vet who served in the Pacific and BROUGHT THIS HOME AS A JUNGLE COMBAT BATTLEFIELD SOUVENIR.
Unusual SYNTHETIC scabbard/scabbard cover is in excellent
, clean condition. Very different than the standard steel scabbard that they often used.. Also nice with the black leather scabbard tip. I NEVER SAW ONE LIKE THIS BEFORE.
    F
rog is very good overall, and IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME FABRIC TYPE FROG, NOT LEATHER. The fabric weaving is evident, with some sort of coating over it. The stitching is tight and nice. THIS TYPE OF MATERIAL WAS USED BY JAPANESE MARINES AND OTHER GROUND FORCES TO BETTER STAND UP TO JUNGLE CONDITIONS. Original Japanese bayonet frogs are rare enough in leather, and virtually never found any more in fabric.
Bayonet appears to be the last ditch type, the type used with wooden scabbards, so I assume this was also from the end of the war.
A very nice example of something that went through the war and conceivably was being worn when its owner met his maker. Shows some battle use and combat conditions, but still is in very nice, collectable condition. One of the belt loops is missing a small bit of the fabric, so loop is a bit limp as shown.
Bayonet is standard 20" long overall, blade is 15 1/2" long. Nice sharp serial number stamped in the pommel.
Bayonets were a popular veteran battlefield pickup souvenir item during the island fighting in the Pacific Theatre and the unusual ones are excellent collectibles today
AND THEY DON"T GET ANY SCARCER THAN THE ONES THAT STILL HAVE AN ORIGINAL BELT FROG AND THE FABRIC MATERIAL AND THE FABRIC SCABBARD COVER!! And in nice condition overall.
