    Description

This WW2 Late War Japanese Type 30 Arisaka Bayonet & Scabbard is in good condition overall but does show signs of age, service and storage. This is a transitional late war Type 30, as it has a rectangular pommel and riveted grips. The blade still has a fuller and the crossguard is contoured, making this an interesting example of of mid and late war characteristics on one blade. Made by Toyoda Loom Works (TALW) under Nagoya Army Arsenal supervision. Of particular note, a previous owner has stamped their last name and initials on both sides of the grips. I acquired this bayonet from the estate of a US Navy veteran and it was stated that the name was his and this was a "souvenir" he returned home with. While clearly not original, the stamps do not detract from display and could be considered "just another part of the story" if one so desired. There is what appears to be a small crack on one grip panel. While this crack does not appear to be "active" (I could not get it to move when applying pressure to it), I still believe it to be present. The blade is in very good condition with an original, field sharpened edge halfway up the blade and a solid, strong point. The bluing is mostly intact but does show expected signs of age and wear. The pommel is clearly marked with serial and series numbers and the bayonet lug catch appears to function exactly as you would hope. The scabbard is a mid / late war "tubular" type and is in good overall condition. The retention screw and internal components all freely disassemble and are clean. Please examine the photographs carefully for the best description of condition.
