Description
VERY RARE, Japanese Senior Forester's Dirk 2nd Pattern 1903 in near mint condition.The blade is in near mint condition, with no nicks or dings. The black sharkskin scabbard in in near mint condition with no cracks or dings. The ray skin handle is also in near mint condition, with no nicks or loss of wire. The blade locks to the scabbard perfectly. These dirks were used from 1903 until the end of WW2.
The blade measures 9 1/2" from tip to habaki. The dirk measures 14 3/8" from tip of the blade to the top of handle. The dirk in scabbard measures 16 5/8" from bottom of scabbard to top of handle.
The last scan is from page 181 of Richard Fuller and Ron Gregory's book "Japanese Military and Civil Swords and Dirks".
The next to last scan is from page 178 of the beginning of the article on "Forestry Officials Dirks"
where it mentions that these dirks are rare.
Hard to find a nicer example of this dirk.
