On June 28, 1962, Original 7 Astronauts
John Glenn
and
Scott Carpenter
visited the General Dynamics / Astronautics Division, San Diego, CA. At this point, both men had recently completed their orbital Mercury flights. This photo album contains eight black and white images pertaining to their visit and General Dynamics' participation in Project Mercury. General Dynamics was contracted by NASA to modify its Atlas ballastic missile to be used as the launch vehicle for
Project Mercury
manned orbital missions.
I had the good fortune to have met both John Glenn and Scott Carpenter in my life. They and their families maintained a very strong and lasting friendship throughout their lives. Commander Carpenter described to me the interests the two men shared and leisure times they had spent together in later life. I was given this small album many years ago by a friend.... It is time to sell.
