Although there is no
provenance
regarding possible use on any NASA grounds, it is however thought that this decal was not intended for general public or retail consumer use. Likely these were available to Douglas executives and vendors in the
manner
that scale desk models were.
About the logo: Advancements of air and spacecraft inspired a clean, simplified version of the logo. In 1962 the Earth was stylized to a circle, the lettering of Douglas was lowered in height, the aircraft became a simple hypersonic jetliner and was streamlined. This would remain the Douglas Aircraft Company's logo until the merger with McDonnell in 1967.
This came to me vertically folded over the "G". The edge of the fold rested where the slight surface
scratches
appear on the jet's tail. Otherwise, the colors are vivid, the edges and corners are clean and sharp and the rest of the decal's surface is in very good condition showing only minor signs of age, use or handling. It measures
approx. 7" x 15". It will display very well on it's own and would make for a great framing candidate.
Although I have a small number of these, you will receive the exact example in the photos.
