Description:
1 rare Japanese WW2 Iida Lock gunto for sale.  This rare sword would make an important acquisition for any collection.
The blade is an old family blade—by 10-pt smith Minamoto Sadahiro.  This sword smith worked around 1688 A.D.  It is wakizashi length—23 3/16”.
This sword was just purchased from the veteran’s family last week.  The veteran’s Service papers come with the sword.  The Serviceman that brought this sword back was a Captain.  He served in New Guinea, Luzon, and the Southern Philippines.  He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for bravery in action.
The Iida all-weather sword mount was an early World War 2 Army mount.  This mount is very rare, and hard to find.
Condition:
While the blade could use a polish, in hand I can see the hamon.  The spring is missing from the Iida saya cap so it doesn’t have that snap.  While a bit disappointing, once a collector can find a replacement spring (which would cost less than ), the snap will be restored.  The Iida lock though
functions as it should
, locking the saya to the sword handle.
