Description
Rather unique unsigned original WWII or earlier blade in army officer's gunto mountings. I say unique because it has leather under the silk wrapping on the handle instead of the more common ray skin. The leather and silk wrapping is in great shape. Overall length is 38.25". There are no menuki, possibly an older civilian blade converted to army standard mountings? The scabbard shows signs of heavy use and is missing the throat fitting and the leather has worn away at the end. The blade itself is sharp with light staining, but unfortunately it was "cleaned" by someone, likely with fine steel wool. There are a couple nicks near the tip, see photos. It is straight with no bends a twists. The mekugi (bamboo peg) is not original, but does keep the handle in place. The leather snap combo that keeps the sword in place is in good shape and holds the sword securely in the Saya. Please look closely at the photos and ask all questions before bidding or offering. This sword is sold as is with no Returns. I've been burned by flippant buyers too many times... If there is a real problem with an item, I'm sure we can work something out. Shipped fully insured with USPS Priority Mail.
