    Description

Beautiful and large heavy felt pennant commemorating John Glenn's February 20, 1962 flight aboard the Friendship 7 space capsule. This was the first American orbital spaceflight.
This pennant is original, made in 1962, and came to me from a fellow who used to work near Washington at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. (He told me that his mother had also worked there in the early days.) I was fortunate to end up with a few of these pennants from him, which were issued as souvenirs of John Glenn's flight. I don't know whether they were issued/sold by Goddard/NASA or by some other source/vendor, but I was told that they were issued at the time of the flight.
The pennant is 35" long, and 10.5" high at its highest point. In very nice condition: It's been carefully stored over the years. The letters and number "7" are stitched on -- not printed. A couple of
    tiny
spots here and there, and a slight darkening at the edge above the letter "N". No holes, tears or other damage. Please examine all photos.
    General Info
: The spaceflight was officially called "Mercury-Atlas 6" (MA-6), and was part of NASA's Project Mercury. It was the 5th human spaceflight. The spacecraft, named Friendship 7, was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida atop an Atlas LV-3B launch vehicle, and made 3 orbits of the Earth before re-entering Earth's atmosphere and splashing down in the North Atlantic Ocean. Total mission flight time was 4 hours, 55 minutes, 23 seconds.
