Here is a fairly small, but very nice fossil Eurypterid from the Upper Silurian, about  420 million years ago. Long before the first dinosaur. From the Fiddle Green Formation, Lang's Quarry, Herkimer County, New York.
Eurypterids are sometimes informally called "Sea Scorpions. The species name is Eurypterus remipes.
This particular specimen measures about 2.15 inches, shorter than most Eurypterids, but in overall good condition.  No paint or restoration has been added.
At first glance, it may appear that this little creature is missing one of its two paddles (swimming legs), which is common with this species.  However, a second look will show that both paddles are indeed present. The left one is just at its side, only the right one is sticking out. But they are both there.  The head is mostly intact, with a top layer missing in part of the front-left area. The body is mostly very nice, down to the tail, which is intact.
In addition, there are no cracks in the plate, which is about 2.9" long and weighs 4.1 oz. Many specimens have cracked plates that need to be glued together.
So if you are looking for a small, but nice example of this popular species, here is a nice opportunity for you.

Some words of caution about COA’s: Do not let them become a substitute for learning about the specimens. We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA’s, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. In addition, the person selling the item is often the one who writes the COA (potential conflict of interest). Finally, a COA without a photo of the exact item described, as part of that COA, is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral.
We suggest that instead of relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject.
