ANTIQUE GARNET AND GLASS NECKLACE.
This necklace looks entirely garnet, however, the center piece is garnet and the rest is glass.  Although I was sold this piece as garnet, I did take it to a jeweler who did say that the outer pieces (with great color by the way) are not garnet, but are glass and the center round cluster, is garnet.  However, it all fits together nicely, the difference, if there is any, does not stand out at all.  I had thought the smooth round pieces were cabochon style but according to this jeweler, they are glass.  Doesn't make any difference to the aesthetic appeal of this necklace, at least not to me.  I am a little cautious now when there is a question of what the stones are having in the past dealt with a jeweler who, it turned out, did not know what he was doing.  Apparently the other jewelers all  knew, but nobody bothered telling the public.  Fortunately, at that time, I lived in an area with multiple jewelers, so it was easy to get more opinions.  That was also a question of garnets, so my nervousness is reinforced.  But he caused a few problems with his wrong analysis.
