You have found a 100% Genuine WW2 Japanese Army Officer sword!
Also known as Type 98 Shin Gunto.
Sword tang is chisel signed "
Yoshu-Saijo-Ju-Taira-Sadashige-Saku
". (Sadashige made this).
Obverse tang reads "
Showa Ju-Ku-Nen-Roku-Gatsu Hi
". (Dated April 1944).
Also known as Imai Sadashige. Listed in John Slough's book page 150.
Cutting edge is a little over 25 and half inch. Entire sword in scabbard is 41 inch.
Blade is massive
, thick and traditional hand forged with active
Notare midare (wavy irregular temper line)!!
Outstanding Yasuri-me (smith's private file mark) on tang!
Blade shows original war time polish, show tiny fine scratches and it's very sharp!.
There are a couple of tiny nail catchers toward the tip (almost unnoticeable) but nothing major!!
There is no crack, no rust, no stain, no bend, and definitely no fatal flaw!!
Scabbard is heavy metal with no dent retaining more than 70% of the original paint!
High quality handshake sarute. Tsuba and seppas stamped number 7.
Locking pin works perfect! Tsuka ito is tight fit with extra large ray skin wrap!!
Everything on this sword is intact. Nothing missing!
